Orthotics are custom-fit, doctor-prescribed shoe inserts that are used to treat many foot and ankle conditions. They help you stand, walk and run more comfortably. Orthotic insoles are prescribed for people of all ages, from toddlers to seniors. Children with inherited foot shape abnormalities also benefit from orthotics.

Orthotics are used for many conditions. They can be used to treat ongoing pain, new onset pain, and to help prevent future pain. Orthotics support the foot and control strain to lower extremity structures by maintaining proper alignment. Orthotics are used for everyday walking and standing, for special occasions where formal footwear is necessary and nearly every athletic endeavor.

Custom orthotics can be tailored to fit any shoe, unlike traditional devices that many formal and athletic shoes can’t accomodate. Not all inserts and orthotics are the same. The off-the-shelf inserts that can be purchased at most drug stores may be helpful, but they aren’t fabricated to fit your foot or tailored to your condition. The benefit of custom-fit orthotics is that they are created by a doctor to treat the problems that have been diagnosed by that doctor.

After your podiatrist recommends custom-fit orthotics, your feet will be scanned in our office using the most up-to-date technology. An infrared scanner takes a 3-D image of your feet. The image includes the size and width of your foot as well as any abnormalities you may have, like a flat arch or a bunion. These images are then used by our doctors to create your custom-fit orthotics.
